Gespa's position
Gespa considers prediction markets to be gambling under Swiss law. In a media release of 17 June 2026, issued as it joined a statement of eight other European regulators, it said that providers from abroad who offer gambling in Switzerland without authorisation do so illegally, and that access to their websites will be blocked.
"The protection afforded by the Swiss Gambling Act does not apply to bets placed on these platforms," said Gespa's director, Manuel Richard. The release put bets on the football World Cup winner on Polymarket alone at about 2.5 billion dollars.
What Polymarket's own list shows
Switzerland is not on Polymarket's restrictions page, read on 21 October 2026. The Swiss block rests on internet providers alone, and network tests in the Europe tracker found it holding on some networks and not on others.
