How to Read Election Odds: Five Checks Before You Trust a Prediction-Market Price
24 to 69¢$10,000 on a Polymarket long shot, paid above the screen price
Seven midterm candidates priced 1.1 to 8.5¢, median over 58 order-book readings on 12 and 13 September 2026. On a Democratic House the same buy paid 0.5¢.
A prediction-market price is what a $1 contract costs, not a vote share. On seven thin midterm contracts in September 2026 a $10,000 buy paid 24 to 69¢ above the screen price, and political long shots won more often than priced. Five checks, and how Vultax will score 13,186 midterm contracts. If prices are well calibrated, candidates priced near 70¢ win about 7 races in 10 across many races. Before reading a midterm price that way, check five things: what the number on the screen is, how much money stands behind it, whether a sudden move has held, where on the scale it sits, and which clock it was read on. The money check changes the most readings. In 58 order-book readings on 12 and 13 September 2026, a $10,000 buy of a Democratic House paid 0.5¢ above Polymarket's screen price.
