Gate Polymarket Fees: The Extra $8 on a $1,000 Trade
A worked guide to Gate's platform charge and the separate Polymarket protocol fee, including maker orders, fixed spending and a round-trip example.
Platform charge on $1,000 of traded value
$08
Calculated from Gate's listed 0.8% charge, checked 9 October 2026.
- Two fee components
- Platform + protocol
- The protocol component depends on the market and order role.
- Worked taker example
- $028
- $1,000 at 50 cents with an assumed 0.04 protocol coefficient; no rebates or other costs.
What Gate adds
Gate's Event Market fee page, checked 9 October 2026, lists a 0.8% platform charge for both maker and taker trades. Applied to $1,000 of traded value, that is $8 before any protocol fee.
Polymarket's own fee documentation says makers pay no protocol fee, while taker fees depend on the market. A maker exemption at the protocol level therefore does not remove a separate platform charge. The distinction matters when comparing a Gate order with a direct Polymarket order.
A $1,000 taker example
Assume a fill of 2,000 shares at $0.50 and a protocol fee coefficient of 0.04. These are illustrative inputs, not a quote from an available market. Traded value excludes fees.
The protocol formula is shares × coefficient × price × (1 − price). Here that is 2,000 × 0.04 × 0.50 × 0.50 = $20. The platform component is $1,000 × 0.008 = $8. Together they produce $28 of modelled fees and a $1,028 outlay if charged on top of the fill.
This is a single filled order. It leaves out spread, slippage, rebates, funding or transfer costs and any later sale. It is not a measured account charge or a profit estimate.
Why the price changes a fixed-spend comparison
Keeping the trade value at $1,000 changes the number of shares as the price changes. With the same assumed 0.04 protocol coefficient, the calculation gives:
| Price per share | Shares | Protocol fee | Platform charge | Combined fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $0.20 | 5,000 | $32 | $8 | $40 |
| $0.50 | 2,000 | $20 | $8 | $28 |
| $0.80 | 1,250 | $8 | $8 | $16 |

A later sale is another calculation
Suppose the same 2,000 shares are later sold at $0.60. The sale value is $1,200. Applying the displayed platform rate to that hypothetical fill produces $9.60, making the two platform charges $17.60 in total. Any protocol fee on the sale must also be calculated for its own price, order role and market settings.
A single fee calculation should therefore not be read as the cost of entering and exiting. Nor should a settlement payout be treated as an ordinary sale without checking the applicable rules.
Check the exact order before comparing costs
Record the product, traded value, share price, maker or taker role and current market fee parameters. Compare the total shown for the actual order, including any discounts, rather than relying on the rate alone. Gate Event Market is the product covered here; a similarly named event-contract or derivatives product may use a different schedule.
The Polymarket fee calculator helps with the protocol side. Keep the Gate charge as a separate line in a comparison unless a tool explicitly includes it. For a position's hypothetical payout, carry all entered costs into the payout calculator.
